YOU WERE THE STORM

by Jazmin Byers

You were the storm and the shelter.

I stood in the rain of your words.

Drenched in the cold weight of their meaning.

Yet you were the one holding the umbrella.

You saw my hurt and tremble yet you wanted

to rekindle.

You wrapped me in the warmth of regrets

and somehow it felt safe to stay in the

arms of someone who pushes me away.
